.:MEW MEW MEETS MAGAZINE:.

A cover of NakayoshiNakayoshi (Nakayosi) is the monthly phonebook manga anthology that helped establish the Tokyo Mew Mew series. (Think Shoujo Beat or Shounen Jump which have been published in English, if you are unfamiliar.) Other series that have appeared in its pages include: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon, Kaitou Saint Tail, Card Captor Sakura, Mamotte! Lollipop, Shugo Chara, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, Shugo Chara! and many others. In any case, back to Mew Mew.

The manga chapters were first viewed by the public in the pages of Nakayoshi. This may not seem like anything special to those who have already read the books, however, while the series was being created in Japan, the magazine offered news on the anime's production and its airtimes, as well as information on the trading card game, CDs, videogames, and so on. Additionally, every issue includes lots of extra goodies called "furoku" that can't be found elsewhere. Many of the items are made from paper (boxes, postcards, stationary), however sometimes there are bigger and nicer items such as pencil boards, keychains, jewelry, pins, etc. You can also send in postage to receive "zen-in" items which are nicer items such as bags and "bento" (lunch) sets. Below are tables showing the issues that Tokyo Mew Mew appeared in. During Mew Mew's run, even the issues which did not feature the series had a page of news about it, or previews for the "a la mode" sequel.

Only Tokyo Mew Mew related furoku are currently listed. I will list zen-in items at a later date.

In the August 2002 issue, voting started on a Tokyo Mew Mew Favorite Character Poll. In a later issue, the results were listed on a two page spread titled "Tokyo Miyuu Miyuu dai 1 kai ninki tou hyou ketsu ka hatsu hyou!" (excuse my bad Japanese, but the kanji basically translates to "Tokyo Mew Mew #1 times(?) character spirit voting conclusion end results chart!"). These are the results. It should be noted that Deep Blue had not yet appeared at all in the manga, and that different forms of the characters counted as different people. For example, Momomiya Ichigo, Mew Ichigo, and Neko-Ichigo were all seperate characters.
