Opinion -> Tokyo Mewmew Perfect Figure Mew Ichigo Review

Tokyo Mewmew Perfect Figure Mew Ichigo
For a slight change of pace, I decided to write up a review for the absolutely lovely Ichigo Perfect Figure (Tokyo Mewmew Perfect Figure Mew Ichigo) produced by Takara, which is indeed very close to perfect, although not quite. ;D

The figure stands about nine inches tall (1/6 scale) and is comprised of roughly twenty-four seperate pieces which have already been put together, not including the two pieces that make up her stand. The most impressive thing about the figure is the amount of detail that's been crafted into it. Not only does she boast a perfect rendition of her clothes in the anime, but individual strands are flying from her hair and there are appropriately placed wrinkles on her outfit. She has one little cat tooth showing in her smile. Even the ties on her boots set out. Closer inspection will also reveal that her Mew Mark has been stamped on her right thigh, right where it's supposed to be.

As for painting, the job on my figure is a little sloppy, but still high quality as far as figures go. The bell on her wrist was left red like her glove and painting near edges run off a bit sometimes, especially on her red trim and her weapon. It is a nice touch, however, to have used a shiny red paint for the trim, gloves, boots, and bell, and a nice metallic gold on her bell, pendant, and weapon. Some color, as in the ears (boots, bow, and hair also), tends to taper off to a lighter color (dark pink on the inside to a light pink at the edges) like it's been spray painted to add to the 3D effect of the figure. The eyes are also highly detailed with highlights similar to what you'd see on TV. The paint colors are very close to the anime as well.

As for shortcomings, the only thing I've noticed is that a different type of mold and plastic was used on her shoulders than the rest of her arms, so that the skin color on her arms at the elbow up to her gloves are darker and made of harder plastic than the rest of her skin. This type of plastic also appears to scratch more easily. With the exception of that, the rest of her skin is soft and seamless, put together in parts that are hidden by her clothing. Other visible seams are found on her dress where they would be normally (a nice cover up), on the aforementioned upper arms, on her weapon, tail, and bow. Interestingly, the stand is inserted up into her left leg and then that piece is attached to a base, allowing her to pose on one tiptoe without breaking or falling over.

The figure comes with a card and a nice box with a note from Mia Ikumi. The box is a nice deal with a picture of a matching manga-style drawing by Mia Ikumi and the note from her on the inside of a door that velcros shut. There's a nice window to see the figure when the front is open, so it makes for a nice display even if you wish to leave her in the box - which you might. The original retail price of this figure was 5980 yen (approx $60USD). If you ask me if she's worth that much, judging similar figures I would have to say "yes", however, auctions often start even higher than that, especially on eBAY, since many Mew Mew items are no longer being produced.

She's pretty to look at, yes, but whether or not she's worth a great deal of money is up to you. Personally, I cannot see myself paying upwards of $100USD for a piece of plastic that just stands around on a shelf looking cute. If you're searching for a quality Mew Ichigo figure, however, this is about as good as they come, with other series figurines being smaller, less detailed, and often of lower quality.

The final verdict? 4.5 out of 5. She'd probably deserve a perfect score if only her upper arms were made from the same color and type of plastic as the rest of her.
